MAJORITY LEADER TO SPEAK AT BIG “I” CONFERENCE
Boehner to address agents and brokers in Washington April 27
WASHINGTON, D.C., Mar. 6, 2006—House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) will speak to members of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (the Big “I”) during its National Legislative Conference & Convention in April.
Boehner will speak at a breakfast April 27 to approximately 1,200 independent agents and brokers from across the country who will be attending the annual event. Participants also will include agent and broker leaders from Boehner’s home state of Ohio.
The Big “I” National Legislative Conference & Convention is the insurance industry’s best-attended, most effective legislative meeting. This year’s event will take place April 26 through 28 at the Grand Hyatt Washington and the Washington Convention Center.
“Majority Leader Boehner is one of the most effective legislators in Congress, and now his colleagues have elected him to lead the House of Representatives,” says Big “I” CEO Robert A. Rusbuldt. “He is in a prime position to advance legislation on issues that affect our members on a daily basis. Our agents and brokers are eager to hear what he has to say on issues that affect their businesses and livelihoods, including tax reform, insurance regulatory modernization and other insurance, economic and national issues.”
Boehner has risen through the ranks to become the House majority leader after nearly 16 years in Congress. Elected to Congress in 1990, he has worked consistently to reform the federal government, and he brings the perspective of years as a small-business owner. He also served six years in the Ohio state legislature (1984-90).
“Majority Leader Boehner’s history, as a small-businessman and an advocate for fiscal responsibility in Congress, gives him much common ground with our members,” says Charles E. Symington, Jr., Big “I” senior vice president for government affairs and federal relations. “He is obviously one of the top leaders in Congress, and we are honored to have him at our event. We look forward to hearing his thoughts on the important issues our nation faces.”
Highlights of the Big “I” National Legislative Conference & Convention will include an in-depth issues briefing session; the annual Big “I” congressional reception on Capitol Hill; appearances by numerous high-profile speakers discussing important insurance and national issues confronting lawmakers as well as agents and brokers in Washington, D.C.; hundreds of meetings on Capitol Hill between Big “I” agents and brokers and their elected representatives in the Congress; and the industry’s largest and best-attended trade show.
The legislative conference provides an excellent opportunity for agents and brokers to discuss important issues with their congressional representatives. Top issues this year include insurance regulatory reform, legal reform, tax reform, and more.
