Big "I" Statement on Hurricane Aid Package and NFIP Extension
The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (IIABA or the Big “I”) today released the following statement by Charles Symington, Big “I” senior vice president of external, industry & government affairs on the hurricane aid package and NFIP.
WASHINGTON, D.C., Sept. 8, 2017 —
"The Big 'I' commends the quick Congressional action on the hurricane aid package to deliver much-needed assistance to those suffering in the wake of Hurricane Harvey and appreciates the inclusion of a National Flood Insurance Program extension, an action which avoids an expiration of the program later this month. However, the Big 'I' also calls upon Congress to pass a longer-term extension of the NFIP to provide more certainty to consumers. At a time when Houston is struggling to recover from Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma threatens to make a direct hit on Florida, it is more important than ever to come up with a longer lasting solution to the nation's flood risk." Founded in 1896, the Big "I" is the nation's oldest and largest national association of independent insurance agents and brokers, representing a network of approximately a quarter of a million agents, brokers and their employees nationally. Its members are businesses that offer customers a choice of policies from a variety of insurance companies. Independent agents and brokers offer all lines of insurance—property, casualty, life, health, employee benefit plans and retirement products. www.independentagent.com. # # # |
