Recently the Virtual University received a question regarding a "conditional renewal." A "conditional renewal" is a renewal offer from the insurance carrier containing a change in terms, conditions, or pricing that, according to that state, adversely affects the insured.
As the name suggests, there is a change in conditions about which the state thinks the insured should be notified with ample time to take action. If these conditional renewal requirements are not met, statutes generally prevent the carrier from instituting the change in condition until certain guidelines are met.
Because the question of renewals and the carrier's need to notify the insured is a common question, the VU decided to make state conditional renewal statutes available for ease of access. The information in this chart may be incomplete. If you are aware of any discrepancies or updates, please let us know so that this chart is as precise as possible. Also, although attempts have been made to address all lines of coverage, some information may have been inadvertently left out.
