Author: Nancy Germond Hurwitz Fine’s Coverage Pointers Newsletter
This coverage-packed newsletter provides current insurance coverage court decisions from both trial courts and appellate courts. While they mainly cover New York, Connecticut and Canadian decisions, they are not afraid to occasionally ride into the fray of other states’ or federal court decisions.
From bad-faith cases to violations of states’ unfair insurance practices law, this biweekly newsletter is a must subscribe, especially for those agents and adjuster handling claims in the northeast.
Hurwitz Fine P.C. is a full-service law firm providing legal services throughout the State of New York and providing insurance coverage advice and counsel in Connecticut and New Jersey.
If you know of others who may wish to subscribe to this free publication, or if you wish to drop your subscription, please advise Dan D. Kohane at ddk@hurwitzfine.com or call 716-849-8900. If you are on his email list, you may also receive invitations to occasional webinars his firm presents.
Randy Maniloff of White and Williams Law Firm Coverage Opinions Newsletter
This almost monthly newsletter covers case decisions and interesting interviews with judges, insurance “key issues,” plus a healthy dose of humor. His colleague Randy Spencer recently took part in Philadelphia’s “Phunniest” stand-up competition. As a strong punster myself, I truly admire those who pun. As we all know, there is nothing funnier than a bunch of attorneys' often off-color humor. The firm bills Randy as “The only stand-up comic to specialize in insurance.”
Randy is the author of General Liability Insurance Coverage – Key Issues in Every State. He is an accessible guy and one I follow religiously.
Bill Wilson’s Insurance Commentary
Of course, I cannot leave the founder of the Big “I”s Virtual University off the list of must reads. A popular presenter, author and speaker, Bill’s common-sense approach to coverage issues is always an enjoyable read. He parses coverage language, has great hard-market tips, and even goes out on a proverbial limb to list forms and endorsements agents should avoid at all costs.
Hopefully, he has personal & advertising injury coverage in place.
Chip Merlin’s Property Insurance Coverage Law Blog
This property insurance blog written by the Merlin Law Group is a must-read for you commercial property producers and customer service reps alike.
There are many articles to read, from understanding the appraisal process to state-specific articles such as Montana Recognizes Insurance Bad Faith and Does Not Permit Wrongful Insurance Company Claims Practices.
The law group has offices throughout the country.
The D&O Diary by Kevin LaCroix
For those of you who are Directors & Officers (D&O) experts to those who dabble in D&O, Kevin LaCroix’s D&O Diary is a must read for intensive coverage discussions on D&O. LaCroix is an attorney and an intermediary focusing strictly on management liability issues.
From COVID-related updates to the insurability of geopolitical risks, this is an extremely popular blog among risk managers.
Additionally, LaCroix also recommends other blogs on his site.
Insurance Illustrated
Published weekly on a three-week cycle, Insurance Illustrated provides up-to-date coverage information, advice for brokers and agents and checklists and other helpful items every P&C agent can use.
Founded by Bill Wilson before he semi-abandoned us to play music, Insurance Illustrated provides agents with an overview of recent court decision, answers coverage and claims questions from our members, and in short is an entertaining read (if I do say so myself).
From our Back-to-Basics column geared toward newer producers and CSRs to new product offerings such as the Hard Market Toolkit available to all Big I members at no cost, this newsletter keeps members and non-members alike in the insurance know.
