Activity Notifications Eliminate Paper Policies and More
By: Dave Willis
Much progress has been made in the quest to do away with transmission of paper personal lines policies. In commercial lines, the industry is still working to catch up. Many carriers today still print, collate and mail paper policies—the agent’s copy and the insured’s—and the agency then re-mails the insured’s copy.
Some carriers are addressing the issue by sending an agency a full copy of a policy using ACORD XML standard Activity Notification messages. The notification messages are very simple in format and allow for a PDF attachment of the policy, which the agency can store in its agency management system.
This lets carriers eliminate printing infrastructure and postage costs and helps agencies reduce paper storage. Plus, the Activity Notification messages are an ACORD XML standard that provides for secure communications between carrier and agency.
Benefits go beyond policy transmission, though. To learn about this and other ways Activity Notifications can boost efficiency and eliminate paper, check out Mele Fuller’s recent article, No More Paper Policies, on the ACT website.
